Alright, you've already heard me say that I wished I used a planner for my wedding. A day of coordinator, at the very least. But if you need more convincing on why they're awesome, check out this list from the September Brides magazine. Here are ten ways a wedding coordinator can help make your wedding planning easier:
1. Listening to your ideas, then suggesting what works for your style and budget. (They can often find ways to make big ideas happen on a smaller budget!!)
2. Helping out with just one or two specific tasks, if that's all you need–such as scouting reception sites, tracking invitations, or finding a minister. (Yep–ask for help on the tasks you dread most. Reception sites, especially in the Phoenix area, are overwhelming because there are so many options.)
3. Recommending vendors who will service your needs best. (Don't spend time vetting ten different DJs when probably just one or two will fit your needs and style.)
4. Acting as the contact person between and all vendors, from the contract signing to the I Dos. (Trust me when I say you don't really want to spend the week before your wedding calling everyone to make sure they'll be there at a certain time….)
5. Getting great deals from vendors with whom she regularly works. Her relationships may mean price breaks. (Yes, they are preferred vendors because they do a kick ass job. But they'll also give you price breaks or throw in extras that can save you money AND give you bigger bang for your buck. Often discounts your event planner gets will offset their service fees.)
6. Overseeing your wedding day. She'll manage the timeline, make sure every detail is in place (the tent is up, the favors are distributed), and handle emergencies (the limo is MIA) so you can relax. Think about it–if a wedding planner doesn't do all this, WHO WILL?
7. Carrying an emergency kit with safety pins, aspirin and water. I'd add a snack, like nuts, and hair stuff, such as pins and spray, to that list.
8. Mediating if things get tense between you and your mom or you and a vendor. Jason and I nearly walked out on our caterer because I was so frustrated. Not the memory you want of planning your big day, ok?
9. Helping you get your legal docs (birth certificates, marriage license) in order. Nice–I didn't even know this was sometimes included.
10. Arranging a ride to take you to your wedding-night hotel or the airport. Or this! See, I like wedding planners even MORE now!
This is a pretty great list. Ladies, if you've had a wedding planner, was there anything else they did to help your planning and big day go smoothly? We'd love to hear it!
