I just read a little blurb about a Chinese wedding tradition that is spreading it's way around the world…
Couples inscribe their name on a padlock, then attach it to a bride, and then throw away the key in the water below. This sweet gesture is meant to symbolize eternal love.
Apparently this tradition is also in Moscow, Tokyo, Paris, Prague and London. One Knot.com bride described her proposal she received while living abroad and included this shot of a love tree (yep, tree, not bridge) in Moscow:
I'm not normally a sentimental kind of chick, but I thought it was pretty cute.
But if you're going to express your undying love in a padlock, please bypass your local Home Depot and get something a little less… utilitarian. Something, well, sparkly!
