Angela is another Long Beach Strut Bride who sent us truly lovely photos of her wedding day and her ruffled ballgown wedding dress! She worked with our Senior Stylist Yulina and, as she explains below, it was meant to be since they had a connection. Yulina was thrilled to help her find a gorgeous wedding dress for her June 23rd, 2019 nuptials to Christian!
In May of 2018 I had gone to some dress stores that had plus size dress not necessarily cater to plus size brides. During one of the many adventures of shopping my Maid of Honor Candice did some research and found Strut. We made an appt. On the day of my appt I went with my mother, grandmother, Maid of Honor and a good friend. My stylist was Yulina. She was nice and when she told me she is Dominican I thought this must be a sign (My hubby is Dominican) that I should get my dress from here. I told Yulina what I was looking for (sweetheart, strapless cause its a summer wedding and something simple). My mother had other ideas and wanted to look like a salvadorean princess lol. Yulina pulled some dresses and a wild card as she put it. After trying almost all the dresses I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to look like. Then I tried on the wildcard dress and when I came out my mother’s reaction was priceless. She began to cry, than my grandma and my best Friend. That’s when I knew that this was the dress. I feel like I am missing the bridal gene but to see my mother so happy made the decision to choose this dress worth it.
Angela chose a strapless lace bodice ballgown with full, ruffled organza skirt. It originally came with a narrow satin band, which she replaced with a sparkle belt. Angela ordered hers in a two tone pearl lining under the ivory lace, which made it really pop! Their amazing wedding photos are by @Yourfirstmomentsphotography.
We got married at the Newport Beach Community Center, in Newport Beach CA. The ceremony took place outside on their grassy area and the dinner, dancing took place inside of their community center. The price was very attractive to say the least. But when we wandered around the facility we noticed the structure of the buildings and the statues around the area. It was modern looking which Christian (Hubby) really liked. I believe we had about 100 guests in attendance. I know I wanted a midsummer nights feel in relation to the colors (dusty pink, blue steele and lilac). Since there was so much greenery around the wedding planner a garden touch to the venue.
Getting ready with my mom was wonderful. Being the only girl made this moment one I will never forget. Another moment was when my closes friends while I was getting ready surprised me with a poem and a picture of my father. My father passed away in 2003 and that was one thing I knew was going to be hard for me to not have… was my Dad physically there… you know every girls dream is to be walked down by their Daddy. The poem was so beautiful and it basically said that by attaching the photo to my bouquet my Dad was walking me down the aisle. Another moment was as I approached my soon to be hubby, seeing him smiling and than crying at the same time was special. He told me that the moment I came down the steps he started to cry cause he couldn’t believe that I looked so beautiful and that I wanted to marry him. Lastly, just hearing the speeches from everyone was heart warming, dancing our 1st dance was fun and exhausting (merenge is fast and hard to keep up with lol) and enjoying all the people that came to show us their love and support of our marriage. It ended with many of the guest going to our favorite karaoke bar and singing the rest of the night away!
One of the funniest parts of the day was having my new nephew (Phoenix) steal the show and dance with everyone there. It was such a cute moment to see a 2 yr old just have a ball. Another funny moment was hearing all the speeches from everyone. They ranged from stories of when we first met to tears that they the person was able to witness a special event.
I would like to thank my mom, brother Ivan, my family, my best friends Candice, Melissa, Alexandro and Michelle for getting me through this crazy day, my make up artist/cousin Diana Hidalgo, my wedding planner Jenn along with her company Party Quackers, Newport Beach Community Center, my new familia The Martinez’s for coming from NY and Texas, my Hubby Christian and everyone that attended our special day!
Congrats to Angela and Christian! While Angela’s ruffled ballgown wedding dress is no longer available, we do have other plus size wedding dress options in our California and Arizona bridal boutiques. Check out our IG for more details!
