Dana's Lace Wedding Dress with Sleeves

Another new spotlight wedding dress from our curvy bride collection – Dana is the first bride to be featured on the blog in this lace wedding dress with sleeves! Dana shopped our Los Angeles area bridal store in November of 2015. She had a vision for her wedding and loved lace. She worked with Tamiko to find the perfect lace wedding dress with sleeves!

Dana wrote: “The wedding was wonderful – my husband Gabriel and I were married at the Dana Powers House in Nipomo, CA on May 7th with about 100 of our friends and family. The reception had a movie theme (Gabriel works in the film industry, and both he and I are big movie fans), so each table was identified by a different favorite film of ours. We had a traditional, Santa-Maria-style BBQ for the dinner, which was catered by Debbie Duggan at Central Coast Catering, and they did a fabulous job. Our DJ, Tim Derkson from Epic Entertainment in San Luis Obispo, CA, was amazing and kept the music and the events flowing all through the evening. We had our wedding cake (carrot), and our cupcakes made by Gina’s Piece of Cake in Santa Maria, CA and as a special surprise to our guests, we had a vintage ice cream truck from SLO Mama Sweets pull up to the barn and give out treats to all of our guests. It was a huge hit. One person I have to also recognize is our wedding coordinator, Mary Allegretta-Butler from Joyfully Joined, in San Luis Obispo, CA – she was friendly, organized, and made everything run smoothly so that my husband and I, as well as our parents, could relax and enjoy the big day.”

Dana’s photos are amazing! All photos are by Alexandra Wallace, with the exception of the picture of the back of her dress, which is by Alyssa Brigham. She wore a lace aline wedding gown from our private collection with off the shoulder 3/4 length lace sleeves. It had a lace illusion back with buttons. She added a pearl belt from Strut.

She continued:

“Of course, I can’t forget Strut Bridal Salon for all of their amazing help. Before I went there, I tried out another bridal shop and it was just a horrible experience. There was no personalized service, the space was cramped (even the dressing rooms!), and they had two other bridal appointments going on in the same area as us, which made it noisy and awkward. Plus, the dress selection in my size was limited to say the least. I walked out feeling rather discouraged. But, when I went to Strut, it was a completely different experience. We had our own area for the appointment and a designated salesperson who was focused only on helping me. The dressing rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious, the range of dresses in my size was amazing, and the price points were reasonable. After my first dress experience, I was certain I wasn’t going to be one of those brides that cried when she found her dress, because I felt so discouraged by the process. But after the second dress I tried on at Strut, the happy tears started coming. My dress felt like me, it was beautiful, unique, comfortable, and made me even more excited for my wedding day.

If I had anything to tell brides-to-be, it would be to really invest in good vendors because it makes all the difference in the world! Do your research, look at Yelp reviews, and ask your married friends. Also, go with your gut – we had caterers that we reached out to for information that never contacted us back, so they were immediately crossed off the list. Also, Google Docs are your best friend – I don’t know what I would have done without their spreadsheets! It made it easy to update (even on my phone!) and share with vendors and family members. Additionally, if you can’t afford a wedding coordinator, don’t make yourself crazy trying to do everything by yourself. Your family and friends want to help you, so say yes when they offer, but make sure they understand you and your fiancee have final say. If you are able to, I would strongly recommend at least get a coordinator for just the week or two leading up to the big day, as that is the time you want all that coordinating and organizing taken off of your shoulders and put on someone who has the know-how to execute all of your planning.”
