Chef Chris of SLiCE cake design recently talked to us about wedding cake trends for spring 2011. She mentioned the following colors are very popular:
- Orange
- Green
- Latte/cream
- Purple
She also said that cupcakes will still be big for wedding receptions because they are often less expensive than cakes and can promote more socializing between your guests.
FUN FACT: Chef Chris said that grooms typically prefer round cakes while brides like square cakes. We suspect it's because you brides are actually reading the magazines and seeing the latest styles. If you guy won't budge, offer a compromise: anything he wants for a grooms cake!
As far as design on the cake goes, the simple look is going out. In it's place are cakes that have a little bit of everything: flowers, ribbons, lace AND sparkly things. Check out this sample she brought in for us!

She said that patten on the bottom is made from a lace mold, and then painted with 24 carat gold. I suspect the dazzling sparkles are NOT edible, but we didn't try. It's so pretty! Ask Chef Chris to pick out specific details from your wedding dress to put on the cake!
