Boy, we sure wish we had the answer to this one. We think wedding dresses should run BIG for that little ego boost we all need sometimes. But they don't. In fact, you could go up FOUR SIZES in your dress (I did, and yes, OUCH).
But designers don't just stop with bruised egos. Oh no–it gets more complicated ladies: they also use different size charts. That means you can be a different size with each designer.
But wait, there's more….
The different fit for different dress styles also means you may need different sizes. For example, if you carry more weight around your hips, you may need a larger size in a mermaid gown, which is more fitted in that area, than you would need in an a-line or a short-waisted ball gown style (which isn't fitted in the hips).
But don't panic–you don't need to know or even figure out what your size is. That's our job. And when you walk in our wedding dress store and get a tour, you'll probably hear that we don't even organize our wedding gown racks by size. We group them by style. It just makes more sense to us.
Most wedding stores stock just one size of each sample dress. So we'll probably put something on you that's too big, or a bit snug anyway. So instead of focusing on a size, we want to focus on fit and flatter, what makes you look pretty. And yes, we can find a wedding dress that will make you look beautiful no matter what your size is or what "figure flaws" you want to conceal.
