When brides come in, I always ask if there's a particular style they want to try on. And, more often than not, they'll tell me, "…because I can't wear something fitted", or "…mermaid because of my hips", or "…ball gown because it makes me look huge". And I reply, "No no no…" Well, I don't say that, but I want to! Instead, I try to explain that some ball gowns may have too much volume for your body type, but there are some that just skim your hips and would be super flattering.
In other words, it's like buying jeans… You sometimes just have to try a bunch on before you find the perfect pair.
Good thing dressing in our every day lives is a little more clear cut. I've been reading The Curvy Girl's Guide to Style, which goes into detail about pears, apples (not the fruits, silly the body types!) boxes and more, and the best kinds of clothes to wear to fit each body.
I actually thought I was an hourglass, but after taking my measurements (and Chastity would say, "tsk tsk" for not already knowing them!) I'm actually kind of boxy because my waist isn't much smaller than my hips and chest. Fascinating! So now I'm learning about how to create more of a waist.
Want to learn more about your body type? You're in luck! Chastity is coming here next month to do a meet and greet and sign books! She's a former model and a personal stylist (yah, I better get shopping then!) and I'm really excited to hear about the tips she has for curvy girls and plus size brides in Phoenix. Join us!
